Bollywood Vegetable Farm

The vegetable farm is a beautiful development of a vegetable farm residing in the heart of the Singapore Countryside. The farm is located in the middle of Sungei Tengah and Sungei Buloh river valleys.

Springing off the buses, the children and parents were welcomed by the warm earthy scents and clean green air of the Bollywood Vegetable Farm. The farm specialized in fruit vegetables such as aloe vera, bitter gourd, bottlegourd, butterfly pea, capsicum, eggplant, four-angled bean, lady’s finger, long beans, pumpkins, snakegourd, tapioca, wintermelon and zuchinni.
Right as the children set foot through the gate of the farm, the sweet scent of the baked banana cakes and freshly ripened papayas could be found at the sites available to be purchased.

The children were first introduced to various uncommon medical trees and herbs right at the beginning of the tour.
One of the favorites would definitely be the lemon grass. One section of the lemon grass was given to each child as a special gift. The children were then told to twist and turn the lemon grass and place it near their noses to smell the refreshing fragrance of the grass. It was then explained that the smell of the lemon grass would keep the mosquitoes away from the children throughout the entire trip. This thoughtful method of keeping the children away from the mosquitoes is both organic and environmental friendly.
Being well protected by the lemon grass, the children were then introduced to various fruit trees found along the way.

There were banana trees and papaya trees towering over the children alongside the pathway towards the vegetable plot. The sweet scent of the banana flowers drew the most attention, with the large, bright red physical appearance of the flower being such an alluring sight, the children were able to easily identify the flowers on the trees.

The magnificent sight of the trees and different plant plots kept the children in awe. The guide of the trip carefully introduced various individual plants and its purposes.

During the tour around the farm, the parents were all taking pictures of the gorgeous plants and views.

At the end of the tour, the children rounded the trip with the potting session. In this activity, the children were given the opportunity to pot their very own organic fruit vegetable to start their very own ‘mini farm’.

Ethan was too engrossed in the planting that he did not even bother to pose for the camera!

Celeste was fully concentrated and carefully filling her pot with more soil.

Ya An spreading the soil evenly into her pot.

Punith proudly waved his hand after he successfully potted his plant. Fantastic job!

The success of the trip gave every child an enriching and fulfilling day at the Bollywood Vegetable Farm.

On 26th November 2010, My First Skool Jurong centre @ Blk 333 Kang Ching Road, held our first inaugural K2 Graduation Concert for our K2 Graduands of 2010 at the comfort of our own centre. Parents and family members started strolling in as early as 6pm to get the best seats to watch their child’s performance. It was ‘full house’!

We were pleased and delighted to have Minister Tharman, MP for Jurong GRC as our Honorary Education Advisor to grace the concert.

Highlight of the memorable night was also the launch of our Community Partnership Program (CPP). The Community Partnership Program (CPP) encourages an active partnership within the community and the school by allowing children to enjoy greater access to a variety of resources in the centre’s vicinity. We invited Mrs Tan, parent of Baxton and Bevin to place in the first piece of the puzzle.

Mrs Loh, Principal of MFS Jurong was up next to put in the second piece.

Mr Daniel Chua, Group Customer Service & Operation Officer of NTUC First Campus, was next to place in the third piece of the puzzle.

And lastly Minister Tharman, MP for Jurong GRC to complete the puzzle of the Community Partnership Program.

And a group picture now!

Finally, the main highlight of the night: the graduation ceremony. Cameras were snapping all the way as their children walked down the red carpet in their graduation robe, walking up on stage to receive their graduation certificates from our Guest of Honour, Minister Tharman.

After receiving their graduation certificates, they were again, up on stage delivering their valedictorian speech which they had been practicing and memorizing for the past three weeks. The children were able to deliver their speech confidently. The children shared their experiences and memories of their day in MFS Jurong centre through their valedictorian speech. Minister Tharman was impressed and commented, “it was a good idea for every child to be given a chance to speak.”

Next up was the most anticipating performance that everyone was waiting for, the children’s performances. The children performed an English and a Chinese drama with a common underlying theme of humility that teaches children to be humble and grateful.

The first performance was in English entitled ‘That’s not fair, Hare’ from a famous tale of The Tortoise and the Hare with a little twist. The children had been practicing diligently for the past three weeks and the performance was great. The children enjoyed themselves as they performed on stage and the audiences were thrilled when they saw their child performing confidently on stage. One parent was touched with tears after witnessing her son’s achievement that night.

The next performance was in Chinese entitled ‘Chi Bu Bao De Fei Mao’. It was a humorous drama that talks about a greedy, ungrateful cat. One parent commented, “It was a total surprise for me and my mother, we never know my child can perform so confidently on stage.”

For the grand finale item, the children danced and sang to the song Graduation by Vit C.
Minister Tharman was brought to look around at the mini exhibition put up by the K2 class which was filled up with the children’s artworks. Many parents took the opportunity to take a memorable picture with our guest of honour and shook hands with him.
