Bollywood Vegetable Farm
The vegetable farm is a beautiful development of a vegetable farm residing in the heart of the Singapore Countryside. The farm is located in the middle of Sungei Tengah and Sungei Buloh river valleys.
Springing off the buses, the children and parents were welcomed by the warm earthy scents and clean green air of the Bollywood Vegetable Farm. The farm specialized in fruit vegetables such as aloe vera, bitter gourd, bottlegourd, butterfly pea, capsicum, eggplant, four-angled bean, lady’s finger, long beans, pumpkins, snakegourd, tapioca, wintermelon and zuchinni.
Right as the children set foot through the gate of the farm, the sweet scent of the baked banana cakes and freshly ripened papayas could be found at the sites available to be purchased.
The children were first introduced to various uncommon medical trees and herbs right at the beginning of the tour.
One of the favorites would definitely be the lemon grass. One section of the lemon grass was given to each child as a special gift. The children were then told to twist and turn the lemon grass and place it near their noses to smell the refreshing fragrance of the grass. It was then explained that the smell of the lemon grass would keep the mosquitoes away from the children throughout the entire trip. This thoughtful method of keeping the children away from the mosquitoes is both organic and environmental friendly.
Being well protected by the lemon grass, the children were then introduced to various fruit trees found along the way.
There were banana trees and papaya trees towering over the children alongside the pathway towards the vegetable plot. The sweet scent of the banana flowers drew the most attention, with the large, bright red physical appearance of the flower being such an alluring sight, the children were able to easily identify the flowers on the trees.
The magnificent sight of the trees and different plant plots kept the children in awe. The guide of the trip carefully introduced various individual plants and its purposes.
During the tour around the farm, the parents were all taking pictures of the gorgeous plants and views.
At the end of the tour, the children rounded the trip with the potting session. In this activity, the children were given the opportunity to pot their very own organic fruit vegetable to start their very own ‘mini farm’.
Ethan was too engrossed in the planting that he did not even bother to pose for the camera!
Celeste was fully concentrated and carefully filling her pot with more soil.
Ya An spreading the soil evenly into her pot.
Punith proudly waved his hand after he successfully potted his plant. Fantastic job!
The success of the trip gave every child an enriching and fulfilling day at the Bollywood Vegetable Farm.
