Racial Harmony Day 23-July-2012

Racial Harmony Day is an event to celebrate Singapore's success as a racially harmonious nation and society built on a rich diversity of culture and heritage. Every year, the children were encouraged to be dressed in their traditional costumes to celebrate this meaningful day together.

Let’s take a peek at some pictures of your children in action. Enjoy!!

Toddler !

The teacher educates the children to live together harmoniously and to respect each other culture. The children from the toddlers made dumplings in this special day.

Howe Yu and Qi Ming roll the dough into the shapes of circles. Howe Yu said, “Soft!” while Qi Ming said, “smooth!”

Yi Han roll the dough in circular shape while Wen Xuan used her fingers to poke the dough. Wen Xuan said, “smooth, soft circle!”

Yi Han and Wen Xuan used  the roller pin to roll and flatten the dough into circular shapes. They put the ingredients on the dough and wrapped over it.

The children enjoyed making hand-made dumplings. They said, “Nice! Yummy! Yummy! “

Playgroup!

"For this year's Racial Harmony Day, the children were given their very first experience of having henna on their hands. Instead of doing the traditional prints, the teachers decided to do designs that the children wanted - buses/cars/lions/flowers etc. Despite the designs being simple and child-like, the children were able to see for themselves what henna is truly like."

Trying out the new henna and the children are all excited and thinking of what designs they want!

Sumi is glad to have a little flower on her hand.

Gerard posing proudly with his henna while Dean gets his turn.

Tsara and Mya are satisfied with their hennas!

NURSERY!

For Nursery class, the children got to learn and observed the changes before and after of a pappadam when teacher Lia demonstrated to them the way it should be cooked in the hot cooking bowl.

Activity 1: Before teacher Lia began to cook the pappadam, our principal, Mrs Loh came to ask few questions to the children about the pappadom.

The children were eager to answer the question asked by Mrs Loh.

Teacher Lia began to fry the pappadam as the children were amazed looking at how the pappadam is being cooked.

Look at how happy the both groups are after they were given each pappadam to eat. They went, “Yeah!”

Once they had posed with their pappadam, they started to eat. Some even wanted to have another round of pappadam.

Activity 2: Besides learning about pappadam, the children got to do a hands-on experience of making the red bean dumpling. While waiting for Ding lao shi to prepare the ingredients, the children took a group photo together.

They went by saying, “Cheese!”

At the end of the activity, the children had the opportunity to choose the “Best Dress” for the boys and girls. After they had finally decided the “Best Dress”, these children were asked to do a catwalk for them to show their beautiful outfit to their friends. Each winner received a prize for winning the “Best Dress”.

Here were the winners of the “Best Dress”:
